Blog Pr wire (and Mom blog Wire) is launching a new free service for American and Canadian non profit organizations promoting fundraising and awareness campaigns.
Blog PR Wire’s Helping Hands Public relations program will feature two non profit organizations (one American and one Canadian) each month both on our websites (BlogPrWire and MomBlogWire) and in our blog news wire reaching over 1500 bloggers.
What is a Helping Hands PR Pitch?
A Helping Hand PR pitch shares information and resources to bloggers who are willing to help non profit organizations by sharing their cause and fundraising campaigns on their blogs.
What is included in a Helping Hands PR Pitch?
Each pitch contains a short bio of the organization’s mandate, their logo, links to social media profiles and videos, a description of how readers can help support the cause, contact details of the organizations public relations officer, and any opportunities for arranging interviews with the organizations founders.
Why is Blog PR Wire offering this service to free for non profit organizations?
Not that long ago we were watching a great video made by some British Columbia homeschoolers about being an advocate for social justice issues. They challenged us to do more to make a difference and this is the first of a few ways Her Media Marketing and Design (owners of both the Blog PR Wire and Mom Blog Wire) plans to give back to society and raise awareness for non profit organizations.
How to get your organization featured
We are currently looking for organizations that support children and families to be featured in our Helping Hands PR pitches. Simply contact us by email.

It’s edgy, it oozes intellect, and at times it can be a tad peculiar. One thing The Mary Sue always is; entertaining.
I know we’ve mentioned the Mary Sure before in a few tweets, but the blog deserves more laudation than 140 characters can muster. Just a guide to girl geek gulture? I think not. If I was 13 (like my son) I would have to tell you it is the EPIC guide to girl geek culture, but alas I am not 13 but well a bit more inverted (the letters that is) plus six so I will share with you that it is the ultimate guide to girl geek culture.
So let’s just say that if you are looking for another boring bland women’s news blog full of home baking tips the Mary Sue isn’t for you. If you are looking for a portal of Girl Geek knowledge, news, and entertainment then you should be clicking your way over to their RSS subscriber.
* The Blog Pr Wire ‘Blog of the Day’ is randomly selected by the staff at Blog PR Wire from the vast universe of blogs. Not all of our selections are members of the Blog PR Wire.
This week’s featured Blog Wire Member is Liz of Woof Woof Mamma. While Liz’s blog is a review/giveaway blog, Woof Woof Mama stands out with a focus on a specific topic – those cute cuddly creatures we all love – pets.
Why did you start your blog?
I launched my blog after we adopted our rescue pup, Daisy. I was already an avid couponer and deal-hunter and started finding all the best ways to save money on pet food, toys and treats. I posted deals to my neighborhood Facebook Group where we all share advice and coupons, and arrange play dates for our dogs and everyone liked my deal posts so much that they encouraged me to start my own blog! I’m just like every other mommy blogger, except my kid just happens to have fur!
What blog platform do you use?
Wordpress
What is your favourite plugin or gadget and what does it do?
I’m using so many handy widgets for WordPress but my most recent favorite is probably Pinterest RSS Widget. It automatically updates my blog with thumbnail images of whatever I’m pinning on Pinterest and also has a “Follow Me on Pinterest” button. Pinterest is my latest obsession.
Share a tip on how you promote your blog
I find that commenting on other blogs and participating in Blog Hops is a great way to spread the word about my blog.
Tell us a bit more about your blog and your upcoming goals for your blog
Right now, I’m doing a lot of giveaways and product reviews and hope that in the future I can also make a positive contribution to causes that are important to helping shelter animals…Daisy was a shelter dog so the cause is close to my heart!

I had a wonderful chat this morning with the Vice President of a marketing firm whose primary client is bloggers and it led me to today’s blog post at the Blog Pr Wire Blog Tips Blog. How do you take your blog from a ‘blog’ to a business?
For the last five years I have been sharing this one tidbit so often that I fear I may grow feathers like a parrot but it still holds true for most bloggers whose intention is to earn revenue on their blogs. “You need to consider yourself an Internet Publisher not just a blogger.”
By definition a Blog is an online journal. As such a ”blogger’ is a writer. A writer creates content.
“(n.) Short for Web log, a blog is a Web page that serves as a publicly accessible personal journal for an individual. Typically updated daily, blogs often reflect the personality of the author.” -www.webopedia.com
A publisher does more then create content. The definition of a publisher is;
” (n) the business head of a newspaper organization or publishing house, commonly the owner or the representative of the owner.”
That’s a big job, being a publisher. The marketing professional I spoke with this morning shared with me how their company is helping bloggers who have dug through the trenches of starting a blog to become large successful blogs (Internet Publication). They are helping bloggers by taking over many of the daily advertising, marketing, and promotional tasks of running a successful blog. Which allows their clients to step back into the role of creating content.
If your intention is to earn revenue on your blog then here are five of the many roles you will have as an Internet Publisher;
- Writer and Editor (the written content)
- Designer and creative director
- IT (think servers, bandwidth, email, domains, hosting, updating WordPress)
- Advertising Director (The person responsible for manging and selling your ad space to monetize your blog)
- Marketing Director (The person responsible for promoting your blog, joint ventures, and public relations)
Not all bloggers have a big start-up budget and most will where one or ALL of the roles listed above, but it is important to remember that if you blog as a business you (here it is my parrot moment);
“Wear two hats. Blogger AND Internet Publisher”
Think of your blog as a magazine. Your magazine isn’t going to grow if you only have an editor. You need to learn the advertising industry standards for Internet publications and manage your blog as a business and publication.
If your blog has grown and you need some help with the Marketing and Advertising roles take a moment to check out MBTrends. Their blog is also full of great tips for bloggers.

We found a blog this weekend that we simply could NOT pull a single post from that could be the ‘blog post of the day’. Why? Because EVERY single post was one of the best we have ever read. Why? Were they full of though provoking political debates? No. Important environmental news? No. Then why ? Because every single post will make you laugh.
You know how a post can make you smile so large that your finger can’t hold back on the SHARE button? That happened to us this weekend and instead of flooding you all with 200 tweets and twitter shares we decided instead to make ‘Bedtimes are for Suckers‘ today’s Blog of the Day.
The blog is ‘written’ by Lilly whose mom (cough cough) is (according to a blog post) was a writer momlogic.com and is now a producer at CBS The Talk.
Way to go Lilly – for reminding us what it was like to be four years old!

There are allot of review and giveaway blogs out there but every now and then one stands out to us. The Golden Ticket stood out to us for a few reasons, one of which was that it has more then one contributor. So today’s featured blogger is sort of actually THREE featured bloggers; Samantha, Julie, and Amber of Your Golden Ticket. However our interview was with the blog’s founder Samantha. Here’s what she shared with us;
Why did you start your blog?
“I wanted a blog to give other informed shoppers a place to find information on products and services that are worth their time and money. Honest reviews. Pure and simple.
The second reason for this blog is to pay it forward and help others in their business ventures. I am lucky enough to know many creative individuals that have talents I do not possess with crafting and producing fun unique products. This blog is my tool to promote those I admire and find even more talented people to spread the word about. ”

An online ecological musical story from Britain is proving a hit in the USA.

You have probably noticed Facebooks new time line. Either because you are already using it or you have been like our founder Kay been fighting the switch over to Facebook’s new timeline.
Unfortunately you can’t hold out forever so we thought we’d share a few tips about Facebook’s new timeline and …
put up a contest for a CUSTOM designed cover image (because we haven’t found a Facebook timeline cover generator that doesn’t squish up your photos yet). See bottom of post.
Our Facebook timeline tips:
1) Privacy.
Facebook’s timeline makes bring up past status updates, photos, and events more visible. Did you rant and rave about a family member last year? It could make a more visible appearance on your new timeline.
A) Adjust privacy on each post. You can hide a Facebook timeline element by clicking on the pencil image at the top of the offending status and choose hide from timeline.
Any previous privacy settings you had still apply, so if you set a photo to be for ‘family’ only, it will remain that way.
You can control what appears on your Facebook time line using your Activity Log which displays every post and activity from the day you joined Facebook to right this minute.
“You’ll see two dropdown menus next to each story in your activity log. The first lets you adjust the privacy of your posts, or it shows you the privacy setting if it’s a story created by a friend (like when someone writes on your timeline or tags you in a post). The second dropdown menu controls the visibility of the story on your timeline and gives you the option to hide, allow or feature the story on your timeline. You also have the option to permanently delete anything you post on Facebook” http://www.facebook.com/help/activitylog
B) Review and adjust your privacy settings. You can set ALL of your previous posts to friends only on your Privacy Settings page. It is a good idea to always review the privacy settings page when Facebook launches a new layout. http://www.facebook.com/settings/?tab=privacy
2) Layout and design
Facebook’s new timeline is a big change from the old profile page. There are two things you should do to update your profile to the new timeline layout; create a cover and add past content.
A) The Time Line Cover. You will find there are tons of new aps and pages offering ways to create a new cover. However, most run the risk of requiring you to provide your contact details or interacting with a third party ap so be sure to research the terms of service and privacy policy of any ap you use to create a facebook time line cover. Our suggestion- use photoshop or paint to create your own.
Facebook has guidelines around using your cover to ‘advertise’ a business’. We recommend that you keep it ‘personal’ but include your blogs colours and fonts to help brand your blog.
B) Your timeline events. See that time line? Chances are there’s not much from when you were BORN to when you joined facebook. You can fill this part of your timeline quite easily by going back and adjusting the dates of any photos you have previously uploaded.
If you want to add a special event in the past, it is as easy as creating new content and setting the date. For example, our founder may want to add “Came up with the idea of Her Media” which occurred in 2003. Easy peasy. Just create a new status and date it.
Yes we said there was a contest. Use the raffle copter form below to be entered to win a custom timeline cover. (Winner can choose from 4 background and provide up to 8 photos and their text.)

Our Blog of the Day is inspiring me to get up and get exercising? Why? All of the amazing fashions you can find at Style PA!
They are covering some amazing fashion brands in a unique ‘Brands A-Z’ format and that is why they are our blog of the day. A key component to a successful blog is for your blog to have some unique features like Style PA’s unique blogging theme of brands by A-Z.
As a self proclaimed geek I don’t stay up to date on fashion – I suppose I’d be booed right out New York. I can however, appreciate the gorgeous fashions (especially the baubles – I like baubles!) you will find at Style UP’s UK Fashion Blog.
BlogPrWire’s featured blogger this week is: Susan of Busy Bee Lifestyle
Susan’s blog was created to share fabulous ideas that would make it easy for busy women to add special touches to family life! The blog covers topics like entertaining, cooking, gift guides, trends, parties for children, fashion, books and much more.
You can tell she loves her blog – the attention to design and navigation makes visiting a pleasure (which wasn’t so great for us at BlogPrWire as I spent much too long browsing and browsing).
The Busy Bee Lifestyle blog is managed on a hosted WordPress platform. When asked what WordPress plugin tops their list, Susan shared that the Quick page post redirect plug in for WordPress is a must have for every WordPress hosted blog.
What are the goals you have for the Busy Bee Lifestyle blog this year?
“One of the most optimistic goals that I have for Busy Bee is to be featured on a national television or cable show! On a more reasonable note, I am continuing to seek FaceBook fans, Twitter followers and subscribers to our newsletter. “
Can you share a blogging tip with other bloggers reading the Blog Pr Wire blog?
” The best thing that I have done is to develop a terrific relationship with the NBC Philadelphia television studio where I have been filming live segments for The 10 Show for the past two years. It’s been great exposure for the site and our blog readers really seem to enjoy the filmed segments that we post online.
Also, one of the most popular features of Busy Bee is our “Tip of the Week” which is mailed to our subscribers on a bi-monthly basis. The tips vary widely in subject matter, but are always informative and fun! Here are links to two of my favorite, recent tips:
